Dandruff Causes

Hormones may also be another important cause, because dandruff usually starts after puberty and is more common in men than women. For unknown reasons, people with some illnesses, such as Parkinson’s disease, are more likely to have dandruff.

The common symptoms of dandruff are-

  • Dry skin.
  • Contact dermatitis.
  • Psoriasis.
  • Seborrheic dermatitis.

Factors that worsen dandruff are:

  • stress, emotional and physical
  • climate (worse in the winter)

Home Remedies For Dandruff Treatment

Dandruff can be removed by massaging the hair for half an hour with curd which has been kept in the open for three days or with a few drops of lime juice mixed with alma juice every night before going to bed.

An anti-dandruff shampoo that contains coal tar, salicylic acid, pyrithione zinc, sulfur or selenium sulfide are good to remove it. How often you use the shampoo depends upon the severity of your condition and your doctor’s recommendations. Your doctor may order a mild steroid cream or a prescription shampoo for more severe scalp symptoms.A low strength corticosteroid cream or lotion may also be applied to the affected areas of skin.

When you wash your hair, lather once, rinse, then lather a second time and rub your scalp vigorously as you shampoo. This will help dislodge excess cells. Be careful not to rub so energetically that you damage your scalp.

Beets have been found useful in dandruff. Both tops and roots should be boiled in water and this water should be massaged into the scalp with the finger tips every night. White beet is better for this purpose.
